Firefighters train for charity run

Branford firefighter Sean Marston is going the distance for a good cause.

Since July, Marston has been recruiting local firefighters to participate with him in the Tunnel to Towers Run, a 5k charity run to be held in New York City on September 28. The run benefits the Stephen Siller, FDNY "Let Us Do Good" Foundation, a memorial foundation set up in honor of Brooklyn firefighter Siller, who was lost on September 11, 2001 while attempting to aid crews at the World Trade Center Site.

Marston's team, the Branford Fire Runners, has been training for the event with weekly runs down Branford's Shore Drive. Marston says another one of his goals in assembling the team was to encourage his brother firefighters to exercise together in a regular but informal setting.

The team is currently taking donations, which can be dropped off at the firehouse on Shore Drive or made online at the Run's official website, www.tunneltotowersrun.org.
