State working on water woes in several towns
HARTFORD (AP) — State officials are sending water samples from a Bloomfield treatment plant to a Vermont lab after microorganisms were found in Hartford’s public water supply.
They’ve also doubled chlorine levels at the plant after copepods and rotifers were found Monday.
The microorganisms are considered harmless, but officials are still advising resident in six communities to boil drinking and cooking water until at least early next week.
The communities are Bloomfield, Windsor, Hartford, West Hartford, and parts of East Granby and Windsor Locks.
Darrell Smith of the state Department of Public Health said officials are investigating whether copepod and rotifer eggs floated through filters at the Bloomfield plant during a restart.
The plant is idle at night during low-demand periods, such as early spring.
