Griffin Hospital in Derby says info on 957 patients breached (with document)
DERBY — Griffin Hospital has notified 957 patients that their personal health information has been breached by a former doctor on the staff, according to a statement released today by the hospital.
The statement said “a radiologist previously, but not currently, affiliated with the hospital or on the Griffin Hospital medical staff accessed patient radiology reports on the hospital’s Digital Picture Archiving and Communication System” using passwords of other radiology staff without their knowledge.
Starting Feb. 26, patients began calling Griffin Hospital about “unsolicited contact by the physician who offered to perform professional services at another area hospital despite the patients’ interest in having those services provided at Griffin Hospital,” the statement said.
Patients affected were those who had radiology studies performed between Feb. 4 and March 5. The doctor looked at 957 patient files and downloaded images of 339 patients, according to the hospital.
The information accessed included name, exam date and description, gender, age, medical record number and date of birth. Social Security numbers and financial information were not leaked, the hospital said. All patients affected were notified of the problem by mail.
Attorney General Richard Blumenthal announced today that he is investigating.
