Basketball

‰The Connecticut Starters AAU Girls Basketball Club is coming to the New Haven area. Their 2010 Fall Basketball League for girls in Grades 5-8 will be held on Sunday mornings at Hamden Hall’s new athletic facility. The league runs for 7 weeks (Sept. 26-Nov. 7) and will consist of a 30-45 minute skills clinic each week, followed by a 45-minute game. Girls from all AAU clubs, as well as players who have never played AAU basketball, are welcome to attend. Advance registration is available at www.ct-starters.org

The New Haven County District Board of Approved Basketball Officials is accepting applications for the 2010 I.A.A.B.O. written examination. Membership is open to applicants 18 and older as of Nov. 2, who establish a satisfactory record of health and character and reside in New Haven County. ‰The West Haven Parks and Recreation Department is now accepting teams for fall softball. The men’s league plays on Monday and Wednesday and the co-ed league plays Tuesday and Thursday. Swimming

‰Tryouts and registration for Hamden North Haven Swimming (HNHS) will be held Sept. 15 at the North Haven town pool from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The upcoming Short Course season runs from Sept. 20 through March 2011. Fishing

‰The monthly meeting of the Housatonic Fly Fishermen’s Association will be held on Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. at the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 65 North Main Street, Wallingford. The HFFA is dedicated to preserving and protecting the Housatonic River as well as furthering the sport of fly fishing. Monthly meetings are held on the first Thursday of the month from September through June. Meetings include featured speakers on various fly fishing subjects, fresh and saltwater fly tying demonstrations, as well as door prizes. Free refreshments are served and the public is invited.
