North Haven Fair continues through weekend
NORTH HAVEN — What can you say about the North Haven Fair that hasn’t already been said?
It’s one of those things that brings you back in time, and it’s a full day of fun for the whole family.
“The entertainment, the amusements, Rosie’s Racing Pigs, Old MacDonald’s Farm,” are the words that Martha Vincent, fair association president, gives when asked what draws folks to the fair.
The 68th annual fair opened last night and continues through Sunday. The fairgrounds are off Exit 12 of Interstate 91.
There are many exhibits in the agriculture and home arts buildings, as well as a petting zoo, displays of cattle, sheep and poultry; pony, oxen and horse pulls; as well as all sorts of food for sale.
Tonight’s main stage entertainment will be The Driftwoods, a Beach Boys tribute band. The concert starts at 8. Warming up the crowd at the gazebo at 6 is Connecticut’s Bristol Old Tyme Fiddlers Club.
According to their website, The Driftwoods are known for their vocal harmonies and rock ’n’ roll rhythms. Starting from the mid-1960s, their performances earned them recording contracts, TV appearances, and studio vocal sessions. The Driftwoods also perform as an opening act for Gary Lewis & the Playboys in 1965 and The Rascals in 1999.
The music of Ricochet will be bouncing through the air at 4 and 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the main stage. Ricochet is a 17-year-old, award-winning country music band. Their rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” made them the first country artists to place the song on the Billboard Country Singles chart, according to their website.
Attesting to their popularity as a concert attraction, in 2004 the group released “The Live Album,” which included another of their signature tunes as a stage act: the Steve Young-penned classic “Seven Bridges Road,” which has also been covered by the Eagles, Dolly Parton and Alan Jackson, according to their website.
Julie Corbalis will be performing at the gazebo at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday. The All Star Dyno-Mite Disco Revue will perform at 5 p.m. at the gazebo. A special for the children, Imagination Station, will perform throughout Saturday. Continued...
Sunday is Senior Day with admission at $5 for older adults. There also is a ride special from noon to 6 on Sunday. You can ride the rides all day for $20.
Rivermud will be performing on the main stage at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. The Glamour Girls will perform at 1 p.m. at the gazebo.
