MADISON — Daniel Hand High School students, parents and town officials were scattered throughout Cumberland Farms Tuesday, sipping free beverages.
The convenience store is raising money for the high school’s Nite In Hand no-alcohol, after-graduation party.
The store, at 633 Boston Post Road, will donate 20 cents from every coffee or chilled drink purchased in the next month to Nite In Hand. The store recently reopened after underground fuel tanks were replaced.
“We are delighted that Cumberland Farms selected Nite In Hand as the local educational charity to support during its grand opening celebration,” said Alisa Masterson, Nite In Hand co-chairwoman.
“The event is a huge part of the graduation experience for the seniors at Hand High School.”
Co-chairwoman Joan Kirsch said that this is the 22nd year for Nite In Hand. The goal is to raise $1,000 toward the budget of $40,000. The expenditures include food, entertainment and the cost of turning part of the school into a carnival.
“As soon as finals finish up, the school transforms,” Masterson said.
High school senior Brendon Fish, 18, said he thinks the fundraiser is a great idea and he is excited about this year’s event.
“I don’t know much about this year’s, but I am definitely going,” he said. “Hopefully, the theme will be good this year. Last year, they had a ton of decorations — it’s just amazing what they do.” Continued...
Cumberland Farms Senior Regional Manager Mike Martone said Nite In Hand was chosen primarily because it benefits the school system.
Ari Haseotes, president of Cumberland Farms Retail Division said, “It’s our pleasure to make things just a little bit easier to help Madison’s students make smart choices, have fun and stay safe.”
