ANSONIA — The Ansonia Nature and Recreation Center will hold its 31st annual Earth Day celebration 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at 10 Deerfield Lane with recreational and educational activities for all ages.
The theme of the free event is “Sustainable Communities.”
Host of the event is the Friends of the Ansonia Nature Center.
Food and beverages will be sold to benefit the Friends, Friends President Rich Wade said. The event is rain or shine.
He said the celebration is the group’s major educational event.
Activities include:
‰Tours of the nature-based preschool at Redwing Pond House.
‰Fifth-graders from Bungay School in Seymour will plant a tree.
‰Center educator Alison Rubelmann will lead an amphibian walk. Other hike themes are wildflowers, lichens, wild edibles and nature for tots.
‰A spinning demonstration by a representative of Coon Hollow Farm in Oxford. Continued...
‰A meet-and-greet with animals.
‰Organic gardeners from Massaro Farm in Woodbridge.
Exhibitors include Earth Tones, LLC, a Southbury landscaping business; a local 4-H club; the Valley Arts Council of Derby; the state Department of Agriculture; the Naugatuck River Revival Group, and Connecticut Energy.
The 40th annual worldwide Earth Day was April 22.
